If you are interested in joining First Presbyterian through membership, we would be so excited to have you join us! We believe that First Pres is a wonderful place to worship and serve the Lord, as well as build relationships with others. Here are the steps to making First Pres your church home:
Talk to a pastor. We would love to meet you and get to know you on a personal level. During this meeting, we can discuss the type of membership you are wanting to pursue: letter of membership transfer, profession of faith or reaffirmation of faith.Attend our Inquirer's Class. Once you have met with a pastor, the next step is to attend our Inquirer's class. This five-week class is taught during the Sunday school hour (9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.) and participants will discuss topics such as the meaning of membership in the Christian family, what we are as Presbyterians, and how to become an active part of the particular family at First Presbyterian Church. We have found this to be the most effective way to give those who desire to join the church family an opportunity to find out who we are and what God is having us do for him in and through our church.
Meet with our Session (Elders). The next step in the process is to meet with our Elders to be received formally as a member. Prospective members will be introduced to the Session and given the opportunity of uniting with the church in one of the three ways: letter of membership transfer, profession of faith or reaffirmation of faith. They will all also have to respond affirmatively to the "Five Questions" from The Book of Order. At the close of the meeting, the elders will give the new members the "right hand of fellowship" to express the Church's welcome. A special service of recognition for new members and two pot-luck suppers in their honor will be held to celebrate this significant experience in their spiritual lives.
If you are ready to begin the process, start by contacting us at the church. God has great things in store for you! We would be so happy to have you join us!
