We will begin taking nominations for new officers for the class of 2020 to give to the Congregational Nominating Committee. Nominations will be taken for three weeks, beginning July 14. Forms will be in the bulletins each Sunday or you can pick one up in the church office during the week. Please read the criteria for the office of Elder, Deacon, Trustee and CNC Member-At- Large and prayerfully consider who you might nominate.
OFFICER CRITERIA FOR ELDERS AND DEACONS
Elders should be persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel as they seek to shepherd God’s people (1 Peter 5:1-3). It is the duty of elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation. Together with the pastors, elders prayerfully seek to discern God’s vision for FPC Amarillo. As a part of this vision, elders encourage people in the worship of God and work to connect them to the body of Christ. As shepherds of God’s people elders care for the flock, with special attention to the sick, the lonely, and those who are oppressed. They will assist in worship and cultivate their ability to teach the Bible and may be authorized to preach where the regular ministry of the Word and Sacrament is unavailable.
The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office. Deacons are servant leaders who help mobilize our church for service in Amarillo and around the world. Deacons serve as the chief operating officers of FPC Amarillo with the responsibility for carrying out the vision of FPC Amarillo by means of its mission and program ministry. As a part of FPC Amarillo’s grow and serve strategies deacons help provide opportunities for the members of FPC Amarillo to grow and serve both inside and outside the walls of FPC Amarillo. They help plan and lead special events that help our church members use their God given gifts for ministry.
Trustees have the primary responsibility of stewarding resources to carry out the vision of the Session. The new Board of Trustees will serve as the chief financial officers for FPC Amarillo. Working with the communications, stewardship, finance, and properties committees, the trustees help raise and manage the necessary capital to do the work of God’s Kingdom by means of the mission and ministries of FPC Amarillo.
Working with the two elders and deacon on the Church Nominating Committee the CNC Members-At-Large prayerfully discern whom the Lord is calling to serve as the next class of elder, deacon, trustee, and CNC member-at-large.
