Kindergartners, 1st graders and their parents are invited to a special class about the transition from preschool worship to corporate worship, also known as “Big Church.” First Pres practices Parenting in the Pew, which means elementary aged children worship alongside their families in the corporate worship services. Including children in corporate worship takes practice, patience, and intentionality from the entire church family. We feel strongly that the extra effort is worth the long-term outcome! Research done by the Fuller Youth Institute shows that intergenerational worship and relationships are key factors in youth continuing to practice their faith after leaving the home. As kids participate with their families in a corporate worship setting, they will begin to learn the practices of worshiping the one, true God and they will become active and vital parts of our church body. Corporate worship is important for honoring the Lord, building the Kingdom and encouraging the body. We see that we are instructed to do so in Hebrews 10:25.
25 And let us not give up meeting together. Some are in the habit of doing this. Instead, let us encourage one another with words of hope. Let us do this even more as you see Christ’s return approaching.
On Sept. 29th, during the Sunday School hour, Early Childhood director, Debbie Laur and Elementary director Michal-ann Bell will lead this class and talk about worshiping God in Big Church. We will begin in the sanctuary foyer at 9:45 am, tour a few special places in the church and end up in room 231 upstairs in the Children's wing for a reception.
