Faith and Fitness at First Pres 

Come join the fun this fall at Faith and Fitness at First Pres!  There is no cost to join and all classes work out to praise music—uplifting to body, mind AND SPIRIT!!!

The classes are currently taking a break until the fall.  Be on the lookout for fall schedules of classes offered and come join the fun!

Wee-little Workout for pre-school ages 4-5

Class description:  With the use of minimal equipment and your own body, learn how to build muscles, burn calories and strengthen your core.  With this high energy workout you can look forward to having and making friends in an inspirational atmosphere.

My name is Lindsey Palmer, I am a stay at home mom of two beautiful girls and I have been married to my amazing husband for twelve years. I am currently pursuing my personal training certification though the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I’m not going to lie. I was drawn into the fitness world kicking and screaming. “I don’t know what I’m doing”, “I’m not strong enough” and “I’m embarrassed because of my weight.” Despite my resistance, we took the plunge and hired a personal trainer. I have now found my passion. Exercise has given me a whole new perspective on life. It is my hope that I can share with you the positive impact exercise can have on your life. God calls us to treat our bodies as temples. It is my goal to provide direction in “temple maintenance.” God designed you for greatness. You are His masterpiece!

Class description:  With a combination of aerobic, stretch, strengthening and basic dance moves, this class uses contemporary worship music to keep you smiling and moving!  Come join us to grow stronger physically and to strengthen your faith and friendships as well.  Women of all ages and fitness levels are invited.  Wear comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes.  All you need to bring is a water bottle.

Hello! I’m Michal-ann Bell. My husband and I have two kids, and I work at First Pres in the Kids’ Ministry. About 2 years ago, I wrote down a “big dream” prayer – could there be some kind of program that combines two things that I am passionate about - faith and fitness? So, I was beyond excited to learn about plans for a new ministry with that same heart here at First Pres! I have participated in many fitness classes throughout my life, but leading a class will be a new venture for me! I am stepping out in faith, and thankful for God’s grace, to be a part of this team. Now it’s your turn to step out in faith! Come join us to see how God will strengthen each of our bodies, our spirits, and our new friendships with one another through these classes!

Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, ongoing weekly 9:15 - 10:00 a.m., Room 207 - currently taking a break
Class description:  Start your heart in this "no pressure" class!  Leslie Sansome, video instructor, guides through a different routine each day with a variety of "easy to learn" steps.  Improve your stamina, balance and sense of well-being by beginning your day with 45 minutes of exercise with Christian friends (of all ages)!  
Monday is 3 miles of walking and dumbbells.  Tuesday is 2 miles of faster paced walking for the heart.
Thursday is fast-paced cardio for upper body with dumbbells. Friday is 4 miles of fast walking.

Diane states, "Why do I do this?  for body and mind.  I am retired and I need routine in my life.  I was new to Amarillo and to First Pres. I moved here to be near my family.  I needed to make friends (other than family).  I knew no one.  The exercise class was just getting started here at First Pres.  About 9 of us came together.  The routine is motivated by Leslie Sansome tapes.  We used a different one each day of the week.  That was 12 years ago.  Betty Hallerberg, Dorothy Timmons, Donna Clopton, Carolyn Hudnell, Dani Hermesmeyer, Carol Talley, Jeanne Jackson and I - the group slowly got smaller but is still meeting.  About 6 years ago, I had a TIA and attributed the lack of medical complications to my daily exercise routine.  I still have some heart issues, but it has not changed my lifestyle.  I still need routine - a place to be each morning and to stimulate my heart.  It's easy to do the walk at your own pace.  No pressure!  I hope to see this group grow.  A recent addition is Judy Taylor.  Come join us in Room 207 at 9:15 a.m.  We would love to have you there!"

First, enjoy dance-based fitness moves that will get you praising and raising!  Then, build strength, balance, and flexibility!  No special skills, experience, handstand or pretzel twisting required!

A word from Lisa:  "Health and fitness have been a passion of mine for quite a few years. I enjoy a variety of workouts, especially those that are low impact. I have seven years experience teaching fitness classes and I am licensed to teach Zumba (including toning, sentao, and kids), pound, PiYo, group ride and group core. I believe in creating an atmosphere of fun regardless of age, size, or ability. That is why I am excited about a class where we can praise, have fun and burn some calories."

CHILD CARE IS AVAILABLE FOR BIBLE STUDY GROUPS, ETC!  

Child care is available with advance reservations for group meetings and events.  To check for availability and make reservations, please email Debbie or call 373-4242. She can give you availability options. Reservations are on a first come, first served basis. Please give as much advance notice as possible if you need child care.  If child care has been reserved and your group is not meeting for any reason, please remember to let Debbie know ASAP, so she may notify the scheduled child care givers and cancel!
